1960-1971

As was the case 33 years earlier the Suffragan Bishop of Jamaica – the Right Reverend Lewis Evans – was elected in 1960 to follow Bishop Mandeville.  In his earlier years Lewis Evans had worked as a banker, and it was felt that he would have the necessary expertise to handle disendowment which was very imminent.

Bishop Evans prepared the diocese for this event by launching the stewardship campaign, which culminated in that giant campaign service on a Sunday in September 1964.  None who were present can ever forget that occasion.
