St. Matthias Church Bereavement Support Group
The St. Matthias Church Bereavement Support Group was established in April 2008, after several members of the congregation completed a training course offered by the National Assistance Board. Its aim is to provide comfort and support to members of the church and the wider community at times of loss. Support is given in the form of prayers, hugs, telephone calls, sympathy cards, flowers and attendance at funeral services. Members can be recognised at funerals and other special occasions by their purple rosettes.
This group also meets in the church hall on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. to share in fellowship with the bereaved in a confidential environment, to learn about and discuss topics related to bereavement, and to plan the outreach work of the group.
Seminars held on topics of interest to date have included:
- When Troubles Come: Coping with Loss
- Aging and Loss of Independence
- Debt after Death
