The St. Matthias Anglican Church Health & Wellness Guild
The St. Matthias Health and Wellness Guild was launched in 2004. This year the Guild is celebrating its Seventh Anniversary. Health professionals such as doctors, nurses and persons trained in first aid are members.
The Mission Statement
Through education and awareness the Guild is committed to empowering the Community to living healthy and happily in body, spirit and mind.
To promote healthy lifestyles among the St. Matthias Congregation and Community. Other persons are welcome to come and get checked also.
The Guild has monthly meetings every third Thursday in the month at 6.30 pm in the Church Hall, except for the months of August and December.
Health Checks are held every three months. Blood sugar and cholesterol, blood pressure weight and body mass are done and counseling and referral to the medical doctor or clinic is done if necessary. The objective is to make persons aware of their health so corrective action can be taken soon rather than later.
The Guild has held several health talks over the years. The last talk was held in February 2010. Topic was Sexual Health.
Every year we have an outreach program where we visit a children or senior citizen home, take a hamper and have social interaction and activities with the residents. This year we will visit shut-in church members.
The Guild has a first aid facilitator and trainer who have trained persons at this church and other churches which make them eligible to join the health guild.
